AB for tea tonight
December 13th 2008 06:59
Whats an AB? It's lovely, yummy. Yiros with special sauces and spices, all tipped over cooked chips and served hot and delicious. I don't know if this is just a South Australia North Adelaide cafe thing, or it's known more widely than that. My husband used to buy this on the way home from work in Adelaide sometimes for a special tea, then he realised he could make it cheaper and just as good at home.
The name is from the greek word for abortion, I'm told, but I'm not sure about that. I do know it looks pretty messy when it's served up on your plate though!
Anyway, I have to wait for my husband to get home from lawn bowls before the cooking will start tonight, because this is one of his signature dishes that he cooks for the three of us in the family.
And of course, I've just realised that I forgot to buy a main ingredient when I went shopping a few hours ago - frozen chips! Oh No!!
I can't whiz off to the supermarket because the nearest surpermarket that's open at 5.30pm is 25km away, I'll have to go the 6km to the nearest fish and chip shop instead a little later on. The joys of living in the country, I tell you, it's a little trying sometimes.
Then I take in the beautiful thunderstorms in the early evening that make an abstract picture of the sky at times, and I marvel at the huge array of birds in the garden and I know I could never go back to living in the suburbs!
The fact that we have six dogs who like to share their opinions would make it tricky in the 'burbs too. Some poeple don't like the sound of barking dogs!
